Stopping fire and rehire on worse money

In Sandwell Leisure in the West Midlands, 280 staff, working with their union, won a massive victory in May when their employer – Sandwell Leisure Trust – announced they would be returning to national pay rates and other conditions.

This has come 14 months after they were fired and then rehired on worse pay by the Trust. Staff held firm during this long running dispute, knowing they were stronger together. It took seven days of strike action, a successful campaign asking local councillors to step in and help the staff and meetings with the council to ask them to put pressure on the Trust.

Together all this work paid off, the members knew that UNISON had their backs and by rising together they won better pay and more secure employment.

Let’s rise together to end the Cost of Living crisis.
